Yurchenko Vault

Yurchenko

The vault starts with a roundoff. The gymnast should execute a standard hurdle, raising their arms up and opening their shoulder angle. They should perform a strong kick from the back leg, and then push off the floor with their lunge leg. A the last moment, the gymnast should place their first hand sideways on the floor. In the handstand position the legs should already be together. At this point the gymnast should turn another ¼ and place their second hand on the floor. If performed properly, the gymnast should finish the half turn slightly before handstand in an extended, tight position. Next follows an effective snapdown with a push from the hands. The round off should finish in a hollow body position with the legs tight. The head should be slightly down with the arms at horizontal so they can be ready for a strong kick back. The next move is the back handspring. The gymnast’s body should transform into a tight arch. There must be a strong arm kick backwards. The gymnast’s head should be slightly open and follow the hands. The gymnast should reach the table slightly before handstand in an arched position. There are two methods for the blocking action. The first is a regular block, similar to how it would be performed on the floor - snapdown block. In this case the gymnast’s arms should push the surface downward. After that, the upper body should transform into a hollow. The second method is pushing opposite (upward). This technique is more convenient for high difficulty skills such as Yurchenko layout, with twists, etc. It helps the gymnast obtain a higher take-off. It’s suitable also for more experienced gymnasts who have developed a faster run. After the snapdown the gymnast should perform a back tuck before landing on the floor.

Roundoff with ½ Turn in First Fase Vault

Roundoff with ½ Turn in First Phase

The vault starts with a roundoff. The gymnast should perform a normal hurdle with them raising their arms up and opening their shoulder angle. A strong kick off the back leg, an effective snapdown, and a push from the hands until the end of the fingers will be required. The gymnast should finish the roundoff in a hollow body position, with the legs tight and in. The head should be slightly down, the arms should be around the horizontal, ready for a strong kick back. The next move is a back handspring with a half turn during the first part of the move. The gymnast should perform the half turn before reaching the handstand on the table. The athlete should turn from the hip, and at the same time perform a strong kickback from the hands. Block on the table in a handstand, not later. Follow this move with a regular front handspring. The difference between this vault and the Turchenko vault is the half turn. There should be an emphasis on the half turn from the hip (center of gravity), and a strong kick from the heels.

Roundoff Full Floor

Roundoff Full

This skill should be executed from a round off. The correct execution of the full twist layout relies on a correct back layout. After the snapdown, the gymnast should raise their arms fast. The leading arm should be bent at the level of the head and the elbows behind the back. The supporting arm should be bent, over the shoulders. The body should be extended, slightly arched from the hips, and the hips should be slightly twisted, following the leading arm. The head should be in a neutral position. The gymnast leaves the floor at the vertical position, jumping from their toes. The twist starts from the leading side of the hip. For example: if the gymnast chooses to turn on their right side, then the leading hip is the left, and the gymnast should lean slightly on the right side. During the twist, the body should be straight and slightly in a hollow. At the last quarter of the flip, when the gymnast is around the horizontal, the full twist should already be concluded. The body is slightly arched and the arms should raise around the level of the chest in preparation for the landing. At the landing, the arms should be bent in front of the chest.

Roundoff with ¾ Turn in First Fase Drill Vault

Flic with ½ and ¾ Turn

The gymnast should start at the beginning with a ½ turn. The leading part of the skill is the strong kickback from the arms. It should not be different than a regular back handspring. At the moment of the bounce, the leading hip turns ¼ and during the flight, the body turns another ¼ prior to placing the hands on the floor. The second part of the skill is identical with a bounder. In the handstand, there should be a rebound from the hands. The gymnast can do this by kicking back with tight legs and executing a strong blocking motion against the floor. When landing, the gymnast’s feet should be slightly in front of their hips. The gymnast should maintain an arched body with their head up, chest open, and arms behind their ears. Flic with a ¾ turn is similar to the previous element. Instead of a ½ turn at the first phase, the gymnast should twist an additional ¼.

Tempo Salto

The technique of the whip back is very similar to a back handspring. The whip back should be initiated from a hollow body position with an arm swing to a full body extension with a tight upper back and shoulder arch. After passing vertical, the arms swing down as the body shapes to a hollow position (chest rounded and hips tucked under). The landing should return to the hollow position with arms at horizontal ready to swing to the next skill.

Tempo Salto with 3/4 Turn

As the tempo salto is performed, the leading part of the skill is a strong kick back with the arms. It will result in length and speed. Another difference compared to the layout full twist, is that at the moment of the bounce, the legs are in as it makes for back handsprings and tempo salto. A tumble track is a suitable place to improve the element
